Chanda Smith Baker
CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE OF
Minneapolis School Board Director, At Large
NOVEMBER 2, 2010 ELECTION
2010 Minnesota General Election
CANDIDATE STATEMENT
I grew up a proud resident of Minneapolis in a family that has valued and supported public education for decades. My commitment to social justice and education has been at the foundation of my professional and volunteer work in the community for over fifteen years. I have been an advocate of African-American children and youth as well as a voice in dealing with the broader issues of educational disparities across race, class, and place.
The achievement disparities is the most important issue facing Minneapolis Public Schools. This must change. Every child regardless of circumstance is capable of high academic achievement, we must work collectively to that end. Our children need us to bridge differences, challenge our assumptions and work together on their behalf.
I am running for school board because I understand first hand what a quality education can provide. My professional and personal experiences have prepared me and I am ready to serve.
I hope to earn your support and your vote.
